WHAT IS CUBABALL?

Kit Krieger is an educator and baseball maniac. In 1968 he played for the Vancouver Mounties of the Pacific Coast League and is thinking of making a comeback in 2010. He is a long-time memorabilia collector and a member of the Society of American Baseball Research. He visited Cuba first in 1997 and has made 20 trips to the island since then. His passion for Cuban baseball was featured in a Michael Lewis article in Vanity Fair magazine in 2008 and has been the subject of two documentaries.

Cubaball offers a remarkable and unique experience for baseball fans and aficionados. Your Cuban stadium visits evoke baseball before free agency, exploding scoreboards and commercialism. Cubaball’s founder, Kit Krieger, views Cuban baseball as a blend of the Negro Leagues and pre-World War One baseball. Teams and players are deeply rooted in their communities and Cuban athletes overtly display their love of the game.

Cubaball explores the island’s baseball past and present. Tours feature attendance at games of the National Series in several stadiums in various provinces. We visit sites dedicated to the rich lore of Cuban baseball and meet with officials and players from the Cuban League. Highlights include a visit to the storied Stadium, where the great stars of the Negro leagues played prior to the integration of major league baseball. We meet the legendary Cuban pitcher, Conrado Marrero, now 100, and the last surviving major league player in Cuba.

Tour participants experience Cuban culture at its best. We visit landmark sites in several cities, enjoy music, dance and other entertainment, and learn about the social realities of contemporary Cuba. Cubaball offers an unparalled access to Cuba’s national sport. Tours are limited to 25 participants. Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
